Deborah Baker joins iRes as Associate Researcher

iRes research cluster would like to welcome Deborah Baker as Associate Researcher. Deborah is an artist and photographer. She works at University College Falmouth as a joint course leader (with Dr. Nancy Roth) of MA Photography.

Deborah uses stills and video cameras to produce images that explore notions of memory, time and space. Running through Deborah's work is an awareness that in photographing the unseen, the moment just before or just after the event, she is attempting to indicate meaning that is not described by the image, but suggested in a symbolic or metaphorical sense.

Deborah Baker after graduation from Creative Photography at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham worked in New York for Ralph Gibson and other artists and photographers, including Mary Ellen Mark, Langdon Clay and Robert Mapplethorpe. She was also the first Director of ‘Oriel Ffotographeg’ now called Ffotogallery in Cardiff, and Photographic Fellow at Sheffield City Polytechnic. She worked as part-time lecturer in London and in 1996 she was appointed Senior Lecturer at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design where she taught on the MA and BA Visual Communication (Photography) and contributed through her practice to the research department of the faculty. Deborah has been working at Falmouth since 2003 when she was appointed Senior Lecturer on BA Photography and then moved to the post of joint course leader for MA Photography.

See Deborah's detailed biography here.

Deborah is the third member of staff at University College Falmouth to join iRes as Associate Researcher; the other two being Dr. Nancy Roth and Dr. Jason Whittaker.
