Networked communities
Networked technologies are enabling communities of artists, designers, active audiences, programmers and critical thinkers to chat together, debate current issues, view and review each other's work and organise linked events across the globe. This innovative new programme introduces you into this growing community. It is led by well-known net artist, Kate Southworth who has exhibited globally as Glorious Ninth, and it is supported by a team of practitioners (tutors & visiting lecturers) working at the cutting-edge of interactive art & design.
Dialogues between practitioners and audiences
Practitioners in this field are primarily concerned with dialogue, and with the networks that facilitate dialogue. In addition to producing art and design 'objects' they often focus on developing conceptual and organisational frameworks within which these verbal and non-verbal exchanges can take place.
The programme focuses on the processes and products of creative enquiry into the contemporary networked world, and on the relationship between artist and audience.
As a student on our programme you will have the opportunity to explore the practical and theoretical aspects of these radical new ways of working which focus on engaging audiences in dialogue. You will gain hands-on experience of contributing to networks, enabling you to engage directly with your audiences rather than relying on older, more mediated forms of communication.

Our environment
Whilst the College is located in the most southerly region of the UK, far from major metropolitan centres, new technologies and our active participation in networked global arts communities enable us to engage in critical debate with our peers around the world.
In addition to the quality of teaching, the College is renowned for its distinctive location within an area of outstanding natural beauty in West Cornwall. The area offers some of the finest surfing in Europe, idyllic beaches and stunning countryside.
All this, together with an 100-year tradition of Fine Art practice and the dynamism to maximise the potential for new ways of working, make University College Falmouths ideally situated for the study of this exciting new discipline.

Our students
We accept students from wide-ranging educational, cultural and social backgrounds to ensure that our programme enjoys a genuine diversity of ideas - the very lifeblood of networked interactive art and design. Our students are eager to contribute actively to this increasingly recognised field of creative practice, and want to expand or focus their interest through reflective study and critical exchange.
