Research Seminar Field Station: a research based programme to investigate origination, production and presentation of contemporary visual art projects in offsite and unorthodox locations.

Sara Bowler

29 April 2009
15.30 hrs – 16.55 hrs
Conference Room,

Sara Bowler would like to invite responses to her proposal for a potential research degree. She is trying to understand how to frame her enquiry in research terms and would welcome feedback during the seminar. She will briefly introduce the proposal and provide examples of recent offsite projects.

Sara Bowler has been at UCF since January 2005 when she took up post as Business Fellow in Visual Arts. The role has enabled her to work with organisations and artists across Cornwall as well as supporting students, graduates and staff of the College. Previously she spent five years at Arts Council England as a Visual Arts Officer in both the national and London regional offices where she led on artists' professional development initiatives. She has a degree in Visual Art from Aberystwyth University and a MA in Glass from the Royal College of Art. Throughout her employed career she has maintained an independent practice as an artist. In 2000, following an introspective review of her work, she adopted a conceptual approach, resulting in several self-initiated projects in Scotland and Cornwall. These focused on knowledge associated with particular landscapes, often bringing together specialists in other disciplines such as archaeologists and land managers as well as artists and academics.
